OSSINING STEAMER BRIEF HISTORY

March 22, 1876

 

After a disastrous fire, citizens expressed a need for more effective fire apparatus.

 

April 12, 1876

 

The Silsby Mfg. Company delivered a No. 4 Steamer to the village of Ossining.

 

June 6, 1884

 

First mention in minutes of our sister company Cortlandt Hook & Ladder of Peekskill NY. We invited them to parade in Sing Sing.

 

May 1891

 

A new Hose carriage was purchased from a manufacturer in Reading Pennsylvannia

December 1913

 

Steamer Company was sent to Tarrytown to help put out a fire at the Rockefeller Estate

 

November 1919

 

Steamer received our first motor apparatus. It was a REO hose wagon

 

1966

 

James Brundage elected Chief of the Ossining Fire Department

 

1996

Ossining steamer Company takes delivery of an E-One mid mount pumper. This is the current apparatus we use today.
